Attendance at Hawaiian Falls tops 200,000

By Robert Cadwallader – Star Telegram Mansfield News Mirror

Benefiting from a $3 million investment in new attractions this summer, Hawaiian Falls set an attendance record and became the first of the five parks in the chain to surpass the 200,000 admission threshold, officials said.

In its fifth season, the Mansfield park rang up 208,182 visitors — a 12 percent increase over last year — and sold a record 12,638 season passes, a 15 percent increase.

“It’s the best we’ve ever done at any of our five parks,” said David Alvey, spokesman for the water park chain that also has venues in Garland, The Colony and Roanoke. “It’s really remarkable, considering that we have two parks that are older than Mansfield’s.”

Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Hawaiian Falls Waco drew 145,000 visitors, 5,000 more than projected.

“That’s terrific for the first year,” said Busch, who has built water parks across the country, including four Hawaiian Falls in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. “We were doing back flips. After the first year, we’re always looking at all the things we could do better, but it was an outstanding year.” Continue reading
